A Biologically Aligned Design Audit (BA Audit) assesses how a property's light, air, temperature, sound, scent, materials, and spatial layout shape the biological and physiological experience of guests and staff and identifies opportunities to support rest, physiological regulation, and recovery.

This is not a certification or a compliance inspection. It is a strategic assessment grounded in evolutionary biology, functional wellness, and sensory design. The result is a written Biologically Aligned Design Report that serves as a strategic, prioritized, principle-based document. The report identifies environmental stressors and offers actionable recommendations for improving the biological performance of the property. 

This work is led by Ecōrejuva Institute's founder, Kay Toye, whose career has centered on assessing and supporting the environments where people receive care. Her background includes over a decade of environmental compliance auditing, resilience planning, and community engagement for the federal government, including regular environmental audits for hospitals.

She has also provided consulting and training for private healthcare facilities on disaster preparedness standards, and represented long-term care facilities in state and federal planning.

Beyond that, she has spent years living in hotels while traveling for this work, across multiple countries and property types. She knows what supports guest sleep, comfort, and recovery, and how to assess whether a property is providing it.

Most properties address guest comfort through individual investments like blackout curtains, scent diffusers, and lighting upgrades, often handled by different vendors with no unifying framework.

A BA audit looks at the property as a complete sensory environment. It identifies how these elements work together and where they may be working against each other to shape the guest's experience of rest, recovery, and well-being.
